Alert: Black Men Are Officially On the Endangered Species List and other useless propaganda…

Hello World,

I had composed what I thought was an eloquent, sociological diatribe of a post about the ABC “Nightline” piece that aired last month about black women, particularly those living in Atlanta, and their inability to find mates due to the shortage of black men…But since this is the Internet and in the interest of self-preservation, I thought better of it…

And now I don’t feel like sugar coating what I originally said…

So I simply want to know what y’all think…take a look at the video if you haven’t seen it already, and let me know…

‘Preciate your thoughts…i.am.out…

  1. Wow, I was really heavy hearted after seeing this video. I didn’t know it was that rough statistically. But I do agree with Steve Harvey, that older men are the way to go. AND it makes me wonder if some cities are better than others. I also wonder how premarital sex affects things. Ultimately, I believe that God is sovereign, and when it’s your time, it’s your time. I also think that we as black women should be trying to get married at younger ages, like straight out of college. It is a major regret of mine that I did not get married younger, but then again, it’s all about God’s plan and timing.

  2. p.s. I’m so curious to see what you originally wrote. Could you email it to me?

    • I actually didn’t save a copy, but it was good if I say so myself 🙂 but basically, I was saying was that this piece is deceiving…it’s almost like it’s implying that we woke up one day and found ourselves with fewer suitable candidates for marriage…there are some deeply-rooted sociological reasons that affect what is going on right now…

And one of the ladies, I would bet, is a commitment-phobe…and has probably looked over suitable guys in her life…Not even the average job description has 50 qualifications…it’s almost as if she is looking to eliminate instead of looking at what could be good…now her list down to 10 which is a lot better, but I’m curious about what remains on her list…and I think a lot of women here in Atlanta — which can be in part be blamed on the whole prosperty gospel thing that is rampant here in Atlanta- see wealth and status over over important values like character, honesty, common sense…I think if women were to look at other assets other than wealth, they would discover there are more men to choose from…

  3. Girl, trust, money should not be the factor but it should be a factor.

    • Trust…I ain no gold digga…but…I guess I agree with what Steve said…if you make $150,000 does he have to make $150,000 or better…now if you make $50,000…I’m thinking he needs to make that or above…on the real…

  4. Imaginary Facts: *only* 54 of every 100 Black men have a job, a high school diploma, not in jail?

  5. Please don’t tell me you actually believe the titlte is true? Wow! Jackie, you say if she makes 50k he needs to make that or above on the real. Really? So that bank teller, teacher, state/county worker, among many other job titles making 45k and lower don’t qualify. This is part of the problem.

  6. @jackie at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bJGMAhWpDF8#t=1m30s ABC wants you to believe that being a high school dropout, unemployed and/or incarcerated are like head or tails of a coin (i.e. they never happen simultaneously).

  9. First of all I think it is a travesty to make this into a black issue. I am a 40 year old white male living in Las Vegas. White in my case is native American/European. Since my last relationship ended five years ago, I have been single. It seems to me that it is almost impossible for a white male that only makes 50 to 60k a year to find a female. The women in Vegas seem to only be interested in someone that makes $600,000 or $6,000,000, or someone that will give them $300 for an hour. While more and more I see black guys hooking up with Latino and white women. Maybe if black women were as open minded about other races as their male counterparts we could solve these problems.

  10. @JD, you make valid points…black women do need to broaden our horizons…but you can find gold diggers in every race… 🙂 Thanks for stopping my blog! Come by again…
